Zwick at K 2010

Aflow Extrusion Plastometer

(août 2010) Explore Zwick Roell’s complete plastics testing range at the K show. Zwick Roell will exhibit two new systems and feature a complete range of solutions for plastics testing at K2010: Hall 11, stand B25.

Fatigue testing: three new testing systems to make the oceans safer

Fatigue testing: three new testing systems

(juillet 2010) Fatigue, corrosion and structural durability testing for materials exposed to seawater are not only important for current reasons. Zwick has just delivered three HC25 model dynamic testing systems to the French Institut de la Corrosion in Brest. These can be used especially ergonomically for measuring the structural durability with the compact HC models.

Road surface materials testing

the asphalt testing system

(juillet 2010) There are now more and more extreme demands placed on asphalt for roads due to increased road traffic and the effects of environmental factors. It wears out or becomes deformed, rough, and brittle. A longer lifespan can only be achieved with extremely high quality, durable asphalts. The manufacture of these is predominantly based on established data for the composition of asphalt, regarding binding materials, grit size distribution and porosity.

CFK composites: International round-robin test on compression testing starts in autumn 2010

Hydraulic Composite Compression Fixture (HCCF)

(juillet 2010) September 2010 sees the start of the registration phase for a round robin test entitled ‘Compression tests on fiber composite materials’, which is likely to be one of the most comprehensive of its kind. Included in the round robin are one method with end loading (prEN 2850, Method B), one with shear loading (prEN 2850, Method A) and a method featuring combined loading, as is usually necessary for higher loads (ASTM D 6641).

New short clamping-length hydraulic specimen grips

New short clamping-length hydraulic specimen grip

(juin 2010) Standard specimen grips are increasingly being called upon to grip and hold short specimens and short clamped lengths. These innovative specimen grips from Zwick, designed specifically for applications of this type, simplify tests on sintered and hard-metal specimens and other high-strength materials. In some cases this is the first time such tests have been possible.

New version of laserXtens extends high-precision measurement to small specimens

Non-contact extensometer laserXtens

(juin 2010) Non-contact extensometers are used either when the specimen reacts critically to knife-edges or if contact extensometers might be damaged at specimen break. Zwick’s laserXtens uses the unique structures of the specimen surface to generate virtual gage marks.

Zwick builds the largest pendulum impact tester in the world

the largest pendulum impact tester in the world

(juin 2010) The success story of Zwick pendulum impact testers continues in 2010. The China Petroleum Materials Corporation in Xi'an has placed an order with Zwick for the largest pendulum impact tester ever built. With a height of more than 6.5 meters and total weight of more than 90 tonnes (pendulum including base), it will be used in future for testing pipe materials for pipelines according to ASTM standard E436 and API standard RP5L3.

Zwick and Ljubljana University: Superplastic forming with 1990% elongation under control

(mai 2010) Superplasticity is the ability of polycrystalline materials to display large tensile elongations during forming without necking prior to failure. Superplastic sheet metals allow products of complex shapes to be produced in a single operation, using relatively inexpensive tools.

Zwick Science Award 2010

Zwick Science Award 2010

(mai 2010) Universities are heavily involved in the development of the new materials, components and technologies which are ever more important for industry. In recognition of these achievements, Zwick honors young scientists every year for outstanding scientific work in which the use of materials testing machines plays a major part. New this year is the inclusion of work involving testing machines by other manufacturers.

The Xflow series: the right extrusion plastometer for every testing situation

Extrusion plastometer Aflow

(avril 2010) For rapid, convenient determination of melt index values, Zwick’s Xflow series covers the entire spectrum, from cost-effective manual operation to instruments featuring operator-friendly automatic test sequences.
